Fire Safety - Do Gutters Really Have An Impact?
Have you ever wondered about this question?
The simple answer is yes. How so?
Every Summer, we usually have a risk of Bushfires. The Fire Service gives us a heads-up about preparing our property for the fire season. They usually recommend clearing your property of Fire hazards
What is classified as a fire hazard?
The NSW Rural Fire Service mentions this on their website:
“Bush fire hazards are any materials which can fuel a fire, such as leaf litter, grass, garden mulch and woodpiles. They can also be made up of solid combustibles or flammable liquids and gases such as petrol, kerosene, alcohol, LPG, natural gas, and acetylene.”
Thinking about these materials sums up everything that normally surrounds your property. If they are close to your property, then they can pose a potential fire danger.
But how does this connect with your Gutters?
Fire Hazards and Your Gutters?
The danger is you don't see what is in your gutters. If there are high winds or storms, you can get leaf debris in gutters building up without even knowing it. Birds can even drop seeds and other debris, which can eventually turn in to a nice garden. This is all prime fuel for a bushfire.
That is why the NSW Rural Fire Service recommends getting your gutters cleaned on a regular basis. This prevents your gutters building up with fire hazardsand posing a potential danger your property
